about

This is where Nick Cooper came crashing back into the band (having achieved his degree) shocking us by having also learnt the drums, and with the funk-monkey dancing on his back etc etc.
Recorded on the mobile 16-track during 2010-2011 at the usual locations across Brighton this album marks the band gelling as a permanent live unit. We had been experimenting with funkier notions for a while and many of the compositions were written on the bass guitar. The songs are often simpler, the lyrics more direct, and the ‘first-take best-take’ policy of the band works well across the LP to give it a freshness and life not heard since ‘Nice Feel’. The most ‘live-sounding’ of our records to date. (SY 2011)

Then Dug Degnin, Simon Young and Nick Flowers found a superb all-round instrumentalist working nights in a homeless hostel called Nick Cooper (or ‘Mini’ Cooper, in an ironic joust at his huge muscular frame).

Simon became the main songwriter and began thinking how you could merge the Bonzo’s with 70′s Miles Davis. An absurd and insulting idea but one that gave rise to the Beachy Head sound.
